The Primitive Symphony Orchestra was established in 1988 to provide the string students of the School of Music with the opportunity to perform in their own ensemble, while also broadening the artistic possibilities of the society.
Over its more than 30 years of history, the ensemble has demonstrated its musical quality across Spain. It has participated in the Youth Orchestra Festivals held at the Palau de la Música in Valencia and organized by the Regional Department of Culture. It has also stood out at the Mozartmania Festival in Alfàs del Pi and in the annual events organized by the Hon. City Council of Llíria.
Notable mentions include the closing concerts at the Valencia Fair Festival (2002 and 2003) before an audience of more than 3,000 spectators. Additionally, the orchestra performed at the closing concert of the XXVIII Provincial Band Competition of the Diputación de València and gave performances at Santa Maria Maggiore (Rome) in 2006.
The orchestra’s participation in the 3rd and 6th CaixaBank Orchestra Competitions of the Valencian Community (2019 and 2023) is particularly noteworthy, achieving the award for the best orchestra in the “Martín y Soler” category and the award for the best conductor in the category on both occasions.
Since 1989, the Symphonic Orchestra has collaborated regularly with choirs, among them the Coral Polifónica Valentina, Coral Gregorio Gea, Coral Vicentina de las HH. del Trabajo de Valencia; and with soloist voices, such as Ruth de los Reyes, Ignasi Giner or Vicente Antequera.
On the other hand, the orchestra has made recordings for the former Canal 9 and has released several compact discs with a varied and ambitious repertoire.
Since its foundation, it has been directed by Rafael Villarejo, José Fabra, Ramón Ramírez, Andrés Valero-Castells, Luís Cobos, Pilar Vañó, José Vte. Escrig and Manuel Galduf, among others.
Since 2016, its incumbent director is Juan José Aguado Baena.
He was born in Madrid, where he studied music at the Real Conservatorio de Música de Madrid.
He has been a student of D. Antonio Arias and D. Manuel Villuendas in Spain. He has taken courses with Mr. Victor Martín, Mr. Aguntín Leon Ara, Mr. Yossi Ziboni, Mr. Vartan Manogian, Mr. Joaquín Palomares, Mr. Fernando Asag, Mr. Elías Arizcuren, among others. He has been a member of the “Orquesta de Juventudes Musicales” and founding member of the “Orquesta de Cámara de la Comunidad de Madrid”, current “Orquesta Sinfónica de la Comunidad de Madrid” in which he will be concertmaster.
He has collaborated with the “Orquesta Nacional de España”, “Orquesta de Radiotelevisión Española”, “Orquesta Sinfónica de la Coruña”, “Orquesta Sinfónica de Alicante”, “Orquesta Sinfónica de Valencia” and “Grup instrumental de Valencia”, performing as soloist in the most important halls in Spain, such as the Auditorio Nacional de España, Palau de la Musica de Valencia, Teatro Colón de la Coruña, Teatro Monumental de Madrid, etc…
He has been string teacher of the “Joven Orquesta de Getafe”, “Orquesta de Calahorra”, “Joven Orquesta de Castilla la Mancha” and the “International Youth Orchestra”.
As a conductor, he has been part of the “Orquesta del Casino Musical de Godella” for ten years, the “Orquestra de la Societat Musical l’Om de Picassent,” the “Orquesta de la Universidad de Florida,” and the Zamora Symphony Orchestra “JOSZA.” Currently, he serves as the conductor of the “Orquestra de la Societat Musical Amadeus de Burjassot.”
The Banda Primitiva de Llíria, also known as the Clarín, is the oldest Civil Music Band in Spain. It was founded by the Franciscan Antonio Albarración, in 1819 as a wind band.
