The Primitive Youth Band of Llíria was created in 1953 as a nursery and preparatory group for the students of the Society’s School of Music. Its first Director was D. Lirio Palomar Faubel. From the beginning, the Youth Band has been significant both musically and in shaping young musicians. Currently, it comprises around 100 members aged 10 to 18 years, whose enthusiasm is evident daily.
Over the years, the band has been led by conductors like Francisco Ramos, Pedro Vicente, and Miguel Ángel Navarro Gimeno, among others. It has earned notable awards, such as the 1989 First Prize in Valencia’s International Contest of Bands (Youth Section) under Francisco Alegre. Additional prizes were won in 2003, 2004, and 2013 under Miguel-Pelegrí Verdeguer and Miguel Ángel Navarro. The band has also performed widely across Spain and on TVE and RTVV.
Different conductors have passed through this group, among others, Mr. Francisco Ramos, Mr. Francisco Alegre, Mr. Pedro Vicente, Mr. Salvador Oliver, Mr. Miguel-Pelegrí Verdeguer and Miguel Ángel Navarro Gimeno.
As important awards we highlight:
Proof of his recognized musical work are the different performances he has made throughout the Spanish geography (Madrid, Seville, Ciudad Real, Teruel, Barcelona, Alacant, Tarragona, Murcia, Santiago de Compostela, Pontevedra, etc.). Also noteworthy are the performances and collaborations in both TVE and RTVV.
He has made various trips of cultural, musical and social exchange in the city of Luzern (Switzerland), in the city of Friedrichshafen (Germany), as well as in the cities of Aveiro and Coimbra (Portugal), concerts in Noreña, Candás and Luarca (Asturias) July 2010, intercanvios in Mota del Cuervo (Cuenca) July 2013 and Cheste (Valencia) 2014. Obtaining great success in all his performances.
In recent years, the Youth Band has been conducted by Miguel Ángel Navarro, José Escrig or José Plaza. Since February 2017, Salvador Marí Ramos has been the band’s chief conductor.
He began his musical studies at the Escuela de la Banda Primitiva de Llíria, with his father Vicent Llimerá, continued his studies at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Llíria and finished his oboe studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Joaquín Rodrigo” in Valencia, With Francisco Salanova, obtaining the “Mention of Honor and Final Degree Award”, studies that he combines with the studies of Composition with Andrés Valero-Castells in Valencia and that he finishes later in the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Salvador Seguí” of Castellón with Ferrer Ferran. He is Doctor Cum Laude in Music by the Universitat Politècnica de València in the Doctorate Program in Art: Production and Research.
He has received advanced studies with Löthar Koch, David Walter, Stefan Schilli, Hänsjorg Schellenberger, Victor Ánchel, Jesús Fuster, Roberto Turlo, Francisco José Valero-Castells, Rafael Tamarit, Fabian Schäfer and Ensemble Miró.
He has obtained the first prize in different competitions for young performers, Certamen Nacional de Interpretación, Concurso Nacional de Jóvenes Intérpretes de Castellnovo and Concurso Internacional de Jóvenes Intérpretes de Llíria.
During his time as a student he was a member of the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE), the Orquesta Sinfónica de Jóvenes Latinoamericanos and the Orquesta Iberoamericana, both conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and under the tutelage of maestro José Antonio Abreu. He was also part of the Youth Orchestra of the Generalitat Valenciana (JOGV) with which he performed as soloist in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante and Franck Martin’s Concerto for Winds, the Ensemble Antiphon and the Jeunesse Musicales World Orchestra, conducted by Josep Vicent.
He has collaborated as principal oboe and English horn with the Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Orquestra de la Comunitat Valencia (Les Arts) Orquestra de València, Orquestra Simfònica ADDA, Orquestra Sinfónica de la Región de Murcia, Orquestra Simfónica de Castelló, Grup Instrumental de València, Orquesta Sinfónica de Valencia, working with conductors Gustavo Dudamel, Jordi Savall, Jirí Bêlohlávek, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Mark Elder, Maurizio Benini, Manuel Galduf, Juanjo Mena, Franz Paul Decker, Lutz Köhler, Josep Pons, Jan Cober, Christian Vasquez, Josep Vicent, Eiji Oue, Pablo González, Salvador Brotons, Juan Miguel Romero, Henrie Adams and has recorded for Naxos, Radio Nacional de España, Medici TV, Catalunya Musica, Radio Nacional de Catalunya, TV3.
As a concert performer he has played with the Orquesta de Valencia, Banda Municipal de Barcelona, Banda Municipal de Santiago de Compostela, Orquesta del Conservatorio Superior de Castilla la Mancha, Valencia Camerata, Banda de la Universitat Politècnica de Valencia, Orquesta y Banda Sinfónica de la Primitiva de Llíria, Orquesta del Conservatori de Música de Llíria performing the most representative oboe concertos such as R. Strauss, W. A. Mozart, A. Pasculli, J. S. Bach, A. Vivaldi. As a composer he has created works to expand the oboe repertoire, among them Studie n.1 (2012), for oboe and electronics and Shoot (2021), for oboe and fixed media. During 2024 he will make his solo debut in Italy, Venezuela and Gran Canaria.
As a guest professor he has given master classes at conservatories such as the Universität der Künste Berlin, Conservatorio Superior de Música “Joaquín Rodrigo” of Valencia, Iberacademy (Colombia), Universidad EAFIT of Medellín, Universidad de Medellín, Conservatorio Superior de Música Luisa D’Annunzio of Pescara (Italy) and other professional conservatories in Spain such as Almansa, Llíria or Cullera. He currently teaches oboe at the International Music Festival of Valencia.
He has been Professor of Oboe at the Conservatory of Castilla-La Mancha from 2013 to 2022, is a founding member of the ensemble Obac, the quintet Vent a Cinc and the Duo Mora & Llimerá, and Professor of oboe and English horn (on leave) of the Municipal Band of Barcelona.
He is currently Professor of Oboe at the Conservatorio Municipal “José Iturbi” of Valencia and oboe-English horn soloist of the Orquestra Simfònica de Castelló. In the field of research, he has tutored several doctoral theses at the Universitat Politècnica de València. He plays with a Marigaux 901.
The Banda Primitiva de Llíria, also known as the Clarín, is the oldest Civil Music Band in Spain. It was founded by the Franciscan Antonio Albarración, in 1819 as a wind band.
